I LOVE KOREAN JESUS (2023),  photography, performance,
printed tshirts, clothing hangers, metal, cardstock paper

THANK YOU KOREAN JESUS YOU SET ME FREE CHRIST MY SAVIOR RESCUE ME

EVERYTIME IS SEE MY BROTHER HE HAS A DIFFERENT SHIRT WITH A DIFFERENT THREE WORD PHRASE INDICATING THAT HE’S A MAN OF GOD BUT HAS SOME TASTE. THE CURSIVE LETTERING OR HELVETICA NEUE OF A NICHE BIBLE VERSE, HE’S A MODERN MAN OF GOD. USUALLY A WHITE TEE. HOW TO BE EVANGELICAL WITHOUT BEING A HARDCORE BIBLE THUMPER. HOW TO MAKE JESUS #COOL
I LOVE KOREAN JESUS is a tourist-of-life intervention. I created a stand, signage, and t-shirts reading I HEART KOREAN JESUS, documenting the merchandise stand in various parts of Times Square in New York City.

Designing the tshirts was inspired by the branding and marketing contemporary Christian culture, using design as a tool for attraction and modernity. This project uses photography, performance, and irony to pose feelings of belonging to religious institutions in the modern day.

The images themselves were modeled after city tourism photography. Blending in the spectacle of the tshirts into the branded image of Times Square, the “hidden in plain sight” effect of the stand acts with its own agency, posing in plain sight of its surroundings with an unexpected slogan.
